IF THEN
If grains of sand,
then shrunk I be.
If boulders,
then a giant me.
If pebbles worn
by rapids wild,
then mountain pass,
a place of trial.
If gravel beach,
round stones, by waves,
then exotic shores
and lazy days.
But everything
is as it seems,
no fairy tale
or far off scenes.
My Sunday shoes
upon my drive.
Off to a place
just as alive.
Gather and sit
under the falls,
to soak in the Love
that made them all.
Meditation
We so often judge ourselves by (against) our perceptions of our surroundings. We look at our circumstances and judge whether we are up to task! If we believe them to be ominous, we feel insecure and threatened.
Often we take the side of the ten Hebrew spies and say, "We should not cross that border, there are giants in the land!" Perhaps we instead look with the eyes of the other two and see that we can "… go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it…” if that is what God told us to do.
It is in that place where we sit in the presence of He who made them all, the big and the small, that we can see ourselves as we are and walk in the way He has called us to walk. Let us not neglect our gathering, our withdrawing, and all things in between, to be attentive, listen, and follow Him lead.
This month’s entry comes from my book LISTENING LIKE BREATHING, which recently was honored by TxAuthors.com as the 2018 Best Of Texas Books Award for Poetry.
