Ps 37:3-4 NRSV, ?Trust in the Lord, and do good; so you will live in the land, and enjoy security. Take delight in the Lord,?and he will give you the desires of your heart.?
Trust in the Lord. Do good. It?s not an ?either/or? but both. A trusting heart and hands that do good work fit well together. One flows from the other.
Simple truths deeply trusted make all the difference. We think growth runs in the direction of increasing complexity, but in many ways it runs in the direction of increasing simplicity. What the people of God need are men and women who will deeply trust in the love of God, and will do good to others from that motive, that energy, that movement of love. If we try to do good without deep trust in the Lord, our good works run thin. If we think we?re trusting the Lord but it does not touch what we do and how we do it, we are deceiving ourselves.
Trust God deeply. Do great work in God. Abide. Enjoy security. Delight in God and you?ll discover you have everything you want.
Not a bad invitation. Almost sounds like good news.
