1You, God, are my God,
? ? ?earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,?
? ? ?my whole being longs for you,
? ? ? ? ? in a dry and parched land?
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?where there is no water.
2I have seen you in the sanctuary?
? ? ?and beheld your power and your glory.
3Because your love is better than life,?
? ? ?my lips will glorify you.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Psalm 63:1-3 NIV
My thirsts and longings are filled only in God. When I am in a thirsty place, I can wait for the one I have seen in the sanctuary and whose power and glory I have beheld. I do not have to settle for lesser or even empty ways of trying to quench thirst. The love of God for me is better than anything in my life, or even my life itself. I can glorify God by waiting and trust God to meet me in my thirsty places. This might be what ?earnestly? looks like for me.
What do I thirst for? Food and drink? I thirst for God more. Nothing quenches my thirst more fully than God, no entertainment, or information, or learning, or any pleasure. The reality is that my soul thirsts for God more than for anything I can consume, acquire or achieve.
I love the simple line, ?God is my God.? God is not just history or existential reality. God is relating to me personally through the risen Jesus. Thank You.
